The Melbourne Latvian Ethnic School Daugava is situated in St Kilda and operates under the auspices of two equally important organizations, the Melbourne Latvian Society and the Victorian Government Education Department Ethnic Schools Division.
The School caters for students from prep through to year twelve. We follow the Federal Government’s and Victorian Education Department’s guidelines for learning a language other than English (LOTE). By being a registered language school, we receive funding from the Victorian Education Department. This imposes certain requirements in school administration, curriculum and teacher professional development.
We aim to create a Latvian environment by using topical teaching material, maintaining Latvian traditions, and promoting students’ self-respect with the aid of locally and internationally produced materials and methods.
This site has been initiated and funded by the LOTE Unit of the Department of Education, Employment and Training, Victoria, Australia as part of the LOTElinx project.
